Self Storage Warehouses

The self storage warehouses are a new development in the business of conventional storage warehouses. As the name suggests the self storage warehouses are completely automated with no workers working inside of the warehouse. This new state of the art completely automated storage warehouses are need of the hour for accurate handling of the goods in a cold storage environment.

In the self storage warehouse the pallets and products are moved with a system made up of automated conveyors and automated storage and retrieval machines coordinated by programmable logic controllers (PLC’s) and computers running logistics automation software. This system is so sophisticated and accurate that I can be monitored without human assistance. It saves a great deal of labor and such kind of system is often installed in refrigerated warehouses where temperatures are kept very cold to keep the product from perishing, and also in the areas where land is expensive. As the automated self storage systems can use vertical space efficiently, these high-bay storage areas are often more than 10 meters high, with some over 20 meters high.

This whole process of direction and tracking of materials in the storage warehouse is coordinated by the help of a database driven application known as WMS, i.e. Warehouse Management System. The WMS is widely used by logistics personnel in the storage warehouses to improve the efficiency of the warehouse by directing pathways and to maintain accurate inventory by recording warehouse transactions.
